Commercial Fitness Equipment – Use it At Home or At the Gym

Commercial fitness equipment is very like home fitness equipment in many ways, but there are some basic variations. Durability and features are among the biggest differences.
Naturally, commercial fitness equipment has to stand up to more use for a longer period of time than the basic home fitness equipment. If equipment is going to be used in a commercial gym setting, the demands are going to be higher than if the equipment were going to be used only by one or two people in a private home gym. The person who invests in that equipment for commercial use needs the fitness equipment to last for a long period of time in order to make a profit from its use. For that reason, commercial fitness equipment may very well be made of stronger materials and be made to last longer. Typically, that comes with a higher price tag. The gym owner is more willing to pay that higher price because it’s going to be recovered over a long period of time.

Another important point of most commercial fitness equipment is the features. If you’re working on an exercise bicycle in your basement a few days each week, you’re simply going to work with what you’ve got. If a hear monitor wasn’t important to you when you purchased the equipment, you’re probably not going to have one on your bike.

But if you’re paying membership dues at a gym, you expect to have those features at your disposal. Most commercial gym equipment machines offer all the latest bells and whistles so that the most discerning client will feel they’re getting their money’s worth.

Another point of those heart monitors and similar features of commercial gym equipment is to help protect the gym owner from liability. Most will be asked to sign waivers regarding their health and state that they agree not to hold anyone liable for health-incidents (such as heart attacks). But the heart monitors, blood pressure monitors and similar fitness equipment features are just an added protection in the commercial gym.

So does that mean that commercial fitness equipment belongs only in the commercial gym? Actually, commercial equipment makes a wonderful addition to the home gym. If you happen to find commercial equipment being sold or auctioned when a commercial gym is upgrading equipment or going out of business, you may be in a great position to add fabulous equipment at a fraction of the original cost. Typically, the equipment will have been used a lot, but well maintained so damage is probably minimal.

Take time to find out what particular commercial fitness equipment costs new before you make an offer on used equipment, and look around for the availability of parts and service for the equipment. An off brand with few parts available may not be a good buy, especially if the gym is simply upgrading (they’re probably making the changes because they know the equipment is no the verge of wearing out).

One of the biggest advantages of commercial fitness equipment is for the person who is looking for an exciting exercise regimen. Commercial equipment can keep you challenged longer by growing with your ability. Features and settings can often be changed to make the workout more rewarding and to give you some new exercises so that you aren’t bored with the same daily routine.
